Arbitrator: Chicago Police deserve NATO overtime

CHICAGO (AP) – An arbitrator has ruled that the city of Chicago must pay a total of $1 million in overtime to 3,100 police officers who worked during last year’s NATO Summit.
The Chicago Sun-Times (http://bit.ly/14HnVHT ) reports that independent arbitrator Steven Bierig agreed this week with the Fraternal Order of Police The police union had contended the officers deserved time.5 overtime because they worked six or seven days straight. The union had filed a grievance saying the city was refusing to pay the overtime.
The department won widespread praise for the way its officers handled the summit.
