Walmart stung with $151 million award for unpaid overtime

The Philadelphia Inquirer (3/24, Von Bergen, 617K) reports Wal-Mark is seeking to have the Pennsylvania Supreme Court’s approval of “a $151 million class-action award to employees in the state for unpaid wages and damages” overturned by the US Supreme Court. The company was accused of not paying workers “when they worked off the clock or while they were supposed to be on breaks.” Wal-Mart argues that “a few plaintiffs’ allegations” were “applied to the whole group.” The company is using the Supreme Court’s logic in “a 2011 decision in favor of Wal-Mart in an oft-cited class-action sex discrimination suit.”
