Massachusetts State Overtime Exemptions
The Fair Labor Standards Act, or FLSA, is the national body of laws overseen by the Department of Labor to help make sure American workers are treated and paid fairly. Massachusetts state overtime laws are very similar to the guidelines established by the FLSA in that the following types of employees are exempt from, or not entitled to, overtime pay:
- Professional
- Administrative
- Executive
Massachusetts overtime laws may not afford the right to overtime pay to the following additional categories of workers:
- Transportation workers
- Certain farm and agriculture workers
- Independent contractors
- Outside salespeople
- Residential employees (who live where they work)
