The U.S. Department of Labor filed a lawsuit Tuesday against the owners of Mongolian Buffet and the now-closed King Buffet in Ames seeking nearly $600,000 in back wages for 38 restaurant employees.
The lawsuit alleges that between March 2012 and March 2014, the restaurants violated the Fair Labor Standards Act by not paying employees the minimum wage or overtime pay. King Buffet closed in late 2014.
“Employees worked approximately 72 hours per week and were paid less than $7.25 per hour for all hours worked,” the lawsuit said.
